There are always a lot of questions! Here are some of the most common: Why should I encourage my child to participate in the E.A. Band? For several reasons, most important being that the Band at EA is a close-knit group of extremely successful and hardworking students who can help your child make a smooth transition into high school…which can be a very intimidating experience for 8th graders! We are a family here in the EA Band program! Are there academic advantages to my child being in band? YES…studies have proven that test scores rise proportionately higher with the length of time spent studying music in school, and our Band program has a history of outstanding students who place at the top of their class! I’m not sure whether I will like band or not. What should I do? All students are encouraged to – at the very least – try band for the summer band practices. Most students find once they try it and do the summer camp experience, they love it! Can my child participate in the Band and sports at E.A.? Our Band students participate in every sport at E.A., and we make it work! We will communicate with the coach and “share” the student without allowing him/her to become overwhelmed. We promise, IT WORKS! How does marching band help students earn P.E. credits? Students will earn all of their P.E. and ARTS required for graduation by being in the band at EA for four years. Does the EA Band take trips? Yes! Every year all of the bands at EA take trips to District and State Festival! Every other year, we take bigger, out-of-state trips. We encourage everyone to go on the band trips, and we do fundraisers to help offset the costs. How can I get my other questions answered? If you still have questions or concerns, please contact one of the band directors: [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] 2018 EA HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER BAND DATES Please mark your calendars for the EA High School Band Camp Dates.
All 8th graders going into 9th grade wishing to be in band next year must attend band camp. The students have a great time and end up starting the school year with a great group of high school friends. This is also where the band begins to learn their halftime field show, so it is very important that students attend. “Rookie" Camp (8th Graders going into 9th attend) July 18-20, 3pm-8pm Full Band Camp (All Attend) July 23-Aug 3, 3pm-8pm Drumline & Colorguard Only July 9-13, 3pm-8pm Congratulations to our 6th Grade Mustangs that made the Greater Baton Rouge Beginner Honor Band! - Instructors, who pull individuals and small groups on a regular basis
Each student will be required to sell AT LEAST ONE box of chocolate bars OR chocolate covered almonds. Each box costs a total of $60.00. This will benefit all of the band members so we are asking for full participation from everyone in order to make this a success.
Opt-out Fee: Students not wishing to sell may choose to pay an opt-out fee of $30.00, due by the end of the fundraiser, February 28th. Students must participate in the fundraiser, or pay the opt-out fee, in order to participate in their grade level trip.
Please discuss with your child before February 8th if you would like for them to take home a box of bars or almonds, OR if you will be paying the opt-out fee instead. If you would like to give special permission for your child to take home two boxes at once, please just send them with a note on February 8. |
Turning in Money
- Return money directly to Mrs. Codina or Mrs. Froisy, in the envelope provided.
- Label the envelope with the student's first and last name and grade. We want to make sure that the correct student gets credit for turning in his/her money.
- Send a check in the envelope in place of cash, for security reasons, if at all possible. If it is not possible to send a check, please exchange any loose change with bills to make counting easier.
- Receipts will be given out after the money is counted. If the money is short, it will be noted on the receipt and the difference will be expected to be turned in within the week.
